teaching is never enough, even if it comes directly from Jesus. Because the disciples did not have the empowerment of the holy spirit, the disciples acted like cowards on the night of Jesus' arrest.
Jesus had warned that difficult days would come. Now they were here. Although the attacks later on would come in the form of false teaching or internal division, this blow was physical and frontal.
Whether we call ourselves classical evangeliscals, tranditionalists, pentecoastals or charismatics, we all have to face our lack of real power and call uo for a fresh infilling of the Spirit. We must not hide any longer behind some theological argument. The days are too dark and dangerous.
Reminded of David and Goliath, running toward the fray.
David's weaponry was ridiculous, a sling and 5 stones. It didn't matter. God still uses foolish tools in the hands of weak people to build his kingdom. backed by prayer and his power, we can accomplish the unthinkable.
If we prevail in prayer, God will do only what he can do. The name of Jesus, the power of his blood, and the prayer of faith have not lost their power over the centuries.
Is time to get out of the well. Inside the well there is no cause for leaving or jumping out. Who will ever fathom the fullness of the love of God? Who will ever exhaust the richness of his mercy to fallen human beings? who will ever understand the real power of prayer?
When I am recalled of the things that had happened to me... I often said" yes those things are real- but God is greater. None of us can afford to blame the past indefinitely. God can still hold me and put me to work in his service."
I didn't have to go into unseemly details of my past. I knew full well the grace and power of God to make crooked things straight.
Instead of trying to bring men and women to Christ in the biblical way, we are consumed with the unbiblical concept of "church growth." The bible does not say we should aim at numbers but rather urges us faithfully to proclaim God's message in the boldness of the holy spirit. The will build God's church God's way.
God didn't ask me to build a big church. He told me to preach the gospel and love people in his name.
God does not ask us to be clever in appealing to those who want a worldly type of wisdom. It is not by might, not by power, not by computers, not by cleverness, but by my spirit, says the lord. Zech 4:6
Paul says it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work (1 cor 3:13) the gold, silver and precious stones will endure while the wood, hay and straw will go up in smoke. Paul doesn't say that the quantity will be tested.. Nothings about attendances totals. everything will focus on quality.
The gospel must be preached with the involvement of the holy spirit sent down from heaven.
There should be dependence on God's power to make an ongoing difference. We should not say yes but then promptly breaks the vow within two days. God's calling can revolutionize us in a supernatural way.
" read whatever chapter of scripture you will, and be ever so delighted with it, yet it will leave you as poor, as empty and unchanged as it found you unless it has turned you wholly and solely to the spirit of God, and brought you into full union with and dependence upon him."
Saw this story about street people and a pastor, where the pastor had heard enough and wanted to get this over quickly. He reached for his money and the street man said.." No you don't understand, I don't want your money. Im going to die our there. I want the Jesus that you talked about."
Me and the pastor had the same reaction, both swallowed hard as God's love flooded our soul
Without the extension of compassion it is all too easy for bible teachers and authors to grow haughty. we become proud of what we know. We are so impressed with our doctrinal orderliness that we become intellectually arrogant. We have the rules and theories all figured out while the rest of the world is befuddled and confused about God's truth..
