A night of comfort

Psalm 91
 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”
 Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
 He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
 You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
 A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
 You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.
 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

God He spoke,
"
Because you love me,I will rescue you;
    I will protect you, for you acknowledges my name.
 You will call on me, and I will answer you;
    I will be with you in trouble,
    I will deliver you and honor you.
 With long life I will satisfy you

    and show you my salvation.”

we have this treasure in jars of clay
to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us
.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not in despair;
 persecuted, but not abandoned;
 struck down, but not destroyed.
 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus,
so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.
 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake,
so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body.
So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

Therefore we do not lose heart.
Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen,
since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

God, be exalted over my possessions. Nothing of earth's treasures shall seem dear unto me if only You are glorified in my life. Be exalted over my friendships. I am determined that You shalt be above all, though I may stand deserted and alone in the midst of the earth.
Be exalted above my comforts. Though it mean the loss of bodily comforts and the carrying of heavy crosses I shall keep my vow made this day before You be exalted over my reputation.
Make my dreams pleasing to You even if as a result I must sink into obscurity and my name be forgotten as a dream.
God I honor you above my ambitions, above my likes and dislikes, above my family, and even my life itself. Let me decrease that You increase, let me sink that You may rise above.
Ride forth upon me as You ride into Jerusalem mounted upon the humble little beast, a donkey, and let me hear the children cry to You, "Hosanna in the highest."
